Leafy Greens and Apples - Freezer Smoothie

My friend Renae shared this recipe for a freezer green smoothie that you can make in advance.

2 qts apple juice
1 bunch kale, 1 bunch collard greens
1-2 c. almonds
6-8 sticks celery
2-4 carrots
4 apples (you can do with or without peel, whatever you prefer)
baby spinach (I did one of those little bags)
4 or more cups of ice

You mix some at a time with the liquid and then put it all in a huge bowl to get it all stirred together evenly. Then pour into mason jars and freeze.

Everything But the Kitchen Sink Green Smoothie

I just created a new green smoothie.  Here's the thing:  None of my green smoothies taste exactly the same.  This green smoothie, however, was a doozy.  I can't even tell you how much I put in of each ingredient so here goes.

2 cups of filtered water
Some spinach
Some carrot scrapings
Some wheat grass powder
Some mango
Some pineapple
Some kiwi
Some frozen blueberries

Blend Blend Blend.  I'm feeling very healthy now.

My Favorite Basic Green Smoothie

Let's face it - Green Smoothies can range from super easy to super...green.  This is a super easy recipe and one that is universally liked.

2-3 cups of filtered water
1 large banana
1 clementine
5-6 frozen strawberries
1-2 cups of spinach (or kale or any other greens you prefer)
A little bit of agave or a stevia packet

Blend the spinach first.  Then add the fruits.  If you don't have a high powered blender, let the strawberries thaw a little bit so that it doesn't break.  Blend well and enjoy!

It's Easy Being Green Smoothie

Drew Manning's Spinach Smoothie

Have you heard of Drew Manning?  He is the personal trainer responsible for the Fit 2 Fat 2 Fit program.

Ingredients
Makes 1 1/2 servings
3 cups spinach
2 cups ice
1/2 banana
2 tbsp of peanut butter
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
3/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk

Directions
Add all ingredients to blender and blend on high speed, until completely mixed.

Pour shake into glass and enjoy!

Dr. Oz's Green Drink

I just have to say that you have to be pretty used to green smoothies in order to get this down.  However, after drinking a glass tonight, I would say it is an almost immediate headache killer, and I feel infused with micronutrients.  Warning: This is powerful stuff.

2 cups spinach
2 cored apples (leave the skins on)
1 medium cucumber (chopped)
3 ribs of celery chopped
1/2 inch ginger root, chopped and peeled
1 bunch of parsley
juice of 1 lime or 5-6 drops of lime oil and add water
juice of 1/2 lemon or 3-4 drops of lemon oil and add water

I had to add some water because it was just so dense with greens.  If you can't handle the flavor, try adding in a banana or other fruit until you can.  If you don't have a Vitamix, chop everything well.

Strawberry Lemonade

There is nothing like a refreshing lemonade in the summertime.  My boys actually love this drink all year round.  This is a-ok with me because little do they know it is packed full of green leafy Kale.  Kale is loaded with nutrients like the best form of B vitamins, antioxidants, vitamin C, A, K, and contains ITC (isothiocyanates) among many others which aids in our detox pathways.  I like to add coconut oil to my smoothies because of its antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-fungal healing properties.  It boost the immune system and is wonderful for the skin and hair.  This drink will make you dream of summer during the long winter months!

2 Cups filtered water
1 T. coconut Oil
1 T. organic pure maple syrup
3-4 drops of doTerra Lemon Oil
1 Cup Kale or large handful
1 bag of strawberries
add a few blueberries to cut the “green” color (if it matters to your children)

Throw all ingredients into the Vitamix and blend until very smooth. You can also try variations of fruit and also spinach with it too.  Enjoy!

Green Smoothie Recipe - Gorilla Juice

Gorilla Juice
3-4 cups of filtered water
1-2 drops of lemon oil
2 bananas
2-3 cups of mixed greens - kale, spinach, beet greens, swiss chard in this case
3/4 cup frozen blueberries
Either liquid stevia or stevia packets to sweeten (do not use sugar or other artificial sweeteners)

Blend away!  If you want to add ice, feel free.  I tend to like mine a juice-like consistency and my kids seem to drink it better if it is that way as well.

Green Smoothie Recipe - who needs coffee or diet coke?!

Green Smoothie Recipe
2-3 cups of filtered water (just depends on if you want it more juice or more smoothie consistency)
1-2 apples  (if it isn't organic, scrape off the peel, slice it up, and stick it in your blender)
1-2 cups of romaine or spinach (I like the spinach better, last night I had romaine.  Romaine tastes like dirt blended up - I prefer the sweeter taste of spinach and would rather just use romaine in a salad)
4-5 drops of lemon oil or the juice of one lemon

If you can't handle the tartness right away, feel free to add some stevia.  I added a drop of peppermint oil as well to give it a "refreshing beverage" type of flavor.
